Saints and Holy Days as announced St Luke’s is a church whose life and worship is based on the sacraments and yet which seeks to reach out to the community. It is a church which values tradition and whose liturgy, worship and music seek to provide the best that we can offer to the glory of God but is flexible enough to embrace the newcomer and those on the edge of faith. Each Sunday the Eucharist is celebrated at 8am and 10.15am. There are rosters for readers and intercessors, and there is musical input from the Director of Music, members of St Luke’s Church Choir or members of the congregation. Refreshments are served following the 10.15am Parish Eucharist and the congregation is invited to socialise and welcome visitors. Services are well ordered and well sung – choral music plays a major part in our worship. The choir  is trained to a high standard. Vestments are worn.  On the first Sunday of the month the 10.15am service is a Family Service which may be  Eucharistic but where the worship is informal and lively.  Junior Church runs simultaneously with the 10.15am Parish Eucharist (excepting the first Sunday  when everyone attends the Family Service). All children are welcomed into church for a blessing  during Communion.   There is substantial lay participation in our worship. At the 10.15am Parish Eucharist, lay members  of the congregation read, lead the intercessions, administer the chalice and act as servers and  Sidespersons. They teach and supervise in Junior Church and Crèche and organise refreshments  after the service.  Evening worship is at 6.30pm and is normally the Office of Compline. We hold the service  between Harvest Festival and Trinity Sunday.  Every Thursday at 11.00am there is a said Eucharist (BCP) followed by refreshments in the parish  room. The number attending is usually about 12.  Morning Prayer is said on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.00am. Celebrating  Common Prayer is used. The Minister from the nearby Methodist Church joins members of the  ministerial team who together take it in turn to lead the Office  .In addition to these services wedding, baptisms, memorial services and funerals are held at the  church. Confirmations are arranged as required.  The Sunday 8.00am said Eucharist is based on The Book Of Common Prayer.  The Sunday Parish Eucharist is based on Common Worship (Order One) modern language and  we take full advantage of the authorised freedoms in the choices of seasonal material. A set of  service books has been prepared for use during each of the main seasons of the Christian year.  Individual Orders of Service are prepared for use at each of the major festivals and on other special  occasions. During December, St Luke’s hosts the Community Carol Service and other events.  Hymns Ancient and Modern (NS) is used at the Parish Eucharist and at most other services at  which hymns are sung. The hymnody is mainly traditional but is complemented by some of the  more modern songs and choruses and chants, many of which are taken from a book specially  prepared for St Lukes by a former director of music.  Several housebound folk receive communion in their homes each month.  Our Style Of Worship The Parish Church Of St Luke, 30 Eardley Road, Sevenoaks, Kent.
